For a long time WOW had an intuitive gear grades system that indicated its power- poor, common, uncommon, rare, epic and legendary. The last one, legendaries are the most desired and hardest to get items as they provide the most power to the player.
With the introduction of Shadowlands expansion the legendaries are back! But this time the system will have a large rework- they are crafted.
Your first step to do will be the unlocking of the Runecarver. It will be done during the Torghast opening questline( and the legendary recipes- memory of the Runecarver wont drop until this step). After hitting level 60 and acquiring the Covenant you will be offer a quest chain to unlock the Maw, introducing this zone and quests, unlock the Torghast tower and the Runecarver itself
Crafting legendary items
Unlike the system we saw in the Legion expansion where legendary items can drop from any activity this time you will aim to get items and materials that will create a legendary gear by adding a legendary power to the existing gear. Effects of the new legendaries are inspired by previous legendaries, tier sets, removed talents or abilities.
To create a legendary gear you will need:
-Base item of the appropriate slot and level
-Memory of the Runecarver legendary recipe matching the slot of a base item
Base items are the blank templates that legendary items are crafted from. Jewelcrafters, blacksmiths, tailors and leatherworkers will be able to craft base items, the recipes for them are obtained by the max level sources. Crafted base items are not soulbound and can be traded and bought/sold on the auction house.
Scribes can craft Missives- a compound that determines what stat your legendary gear piece will have.
Soul ash is the new currency that you will need for creating and upgrading legendary gear pieces. It is obtained by completing the layers in the Torghast tower. With the higher base item you will need an increased amount of Soul Ash.
Memory of the Runecarver
This is the last component, the recipe for the legendary power that will be on the legendary piece. They are obtained from different activities such as dungeons and raids, pvp, world quests, Torghast tower and Covenant content.
